KS3

At Langdon Academy, our key stage 3 curriculum equips our students with the knowledge, skills and attributes to become confident and proficient life-long learners. Not only does our curriculum provide a solid foundation for progression to key stage 4, it offers our students a wide range of opportunities to develop a real love for learning. There are a range of enrichment opportunities and a very strong focus on acquisition and mastery of the key skills of literacy and numeracy. Our curriculum also actively promotes the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our students. In addition, our students gain a clear understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

Home Learning

Home learning and homework tasks provide our students with opportunities to develop valuable independent learning skills. The home learning activities are varied and include: questions to check understanding and consolidate learning; research-based activities; individual/group projects. Home learning tasks are set weekly and parents are encouraged to take an active interest in the work done. Pupils will be issued with a Planner, which will contain details of the home learning tasks. The Planner must be carried in their bag to each lesson, and homework must be entered on the relevant page. Parents are asked to look at the Planner and to sign it at the end of each week.

Enrichment in Key stage 3

Our students are offered a wide range of extracurricular activities. In addition to after-school clubs in curriculum subjects such as science, Photography and Media (Film Club), we offer a wide range of sports clubs such as netball, football, cricket, tennis and basketball. There are many links with local primary schools and sporting organisations such as the School Games organisation whom Langdon is pleased to be partnering with in hosting a tennis club for example. Development is also underway to greatly enhance the cricketing facilities at the school with plans to establish Langdon Academy as a centre of excellence and engage with the local community at the same time. This project will create many opportunities for students to not only get more active but also participate in sports leadership programmes thereby forming a crucial part of our holistic curriculum.

We have a fully equipped gym and fitness suite with state-of-the-art facilities for our students and run by qualified fitness instructors.

Our students take part in a wide range of competitions such as debating, music and drama productions and they are able to utilise excellent Arts facilities in order to make these activities possible.

The LANGDON VALUES

The Langdon Values are a set of values agreed by our student body in 2016 and now form the foundation of all we aim to achieve here at the Academy. They are a range of qualities that we seek to develop in all our students and evidence of them can be seen throughout the school as students and staff go about their day to day responsibilities.

Our school motto 'Progressio Cum Populo' (Progress with the People) underpins all that we do here at Langdon. Effort and Determination are two qualities that we value above all others. We will reward our students for showing Effort and Determination with Merits. Nobody's a natural. You work hard to get good and then work harder to get better, working together objectives will be reached more quickly, hence 'Progressio Cum Populo'
