Geography KS3

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

Year 7

In Year 7 students follow a varied curriculum. Initially students extend their locational knowledge and deepen their spatial awareness of the world’s countries using maps of the world. The following topics are covered: Basic Geographical skills, Countries, Ecosystems, UK Weather and Resources.

Year 8

In Year 8 students build on their Geographical skills and begin to develop more focused examination skills. The following topics are covered: Population, Tourism, Tropical Storms, Rivers/Coasts and Natural Hazards

Year 9

In Year 9 students are introduced to the GCSE Geography curriculum. The following topics are covered: Geographical Skills and Urban Environments. Students will then start the full GCSE Curriculum from December (AQA GCSE Geography).

HOW THEY WILL BE ASSESSED

Year 7

Students' books are marked every fortnight and students are told what they are doing well and are given targets on how to improve. As well as this, students complete end-of-term assessments throughout the year. There is also an end of year test which covers all the topics studied throughout the year.

Year 8

Students' books are marked every fortnight and students are told what they are doing well and are given targets on how to improve. As well as this, students complete end-of-term assessments throughout the year. There is also an end of year test which covers all the topics studied throughout the year.

Year 9

Students' books are marked every fortnight using the AQA GCSE Geography criteria and students are told what they are doing well and are given targets on how to improve. As well as this, students complete end-of-term assessments throughout the year. There is also an end of year test which covers all the topics studied throughout the year.

HOME LEARNING

Year 7

Students are given homework every two weeks to enhance their learning of key geographical topics. Subject teachers also set research tasks which help to further broaden their Geographical knowledge.
