Physical Education
Subject Overview
Our Physical Education curriculum is designed to lay the foundations for a lifelong appreciation of physical activity, sport, and personal well-being. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that enables all students to develop fundamental movement skills, tactical awareness, and physical literacy across a variety of sports and activities.
Students will experience a diverse range of activities including:
- Invasion games such as football and basketball
- Net and wall sports including badminton and table tennis
- Striking and fielding games such as cricket and rounders
- Aesthetic activities like gymnastics and trampolining
- Health-Related Exercise (HRE) to develop understanding of fitness and healthy lifestyles
In Years 7 and 8, the focus is on mastering the basic techniques, rules, and principles of play, while fostering teamwork, resilience, and fair play. By Year 9, students are given opportunities to apply these skills in more advanced and competitive contexts, refining techniques and developing leadership, strategy, and decision-making abilities.
Our aim is to ensure that all students build confidence, enjoy being physically active, and are well-prepared to take on the challenges of Key Stage 4 with enthusiasm and competence.
Curriculum Intent
Our aim is to deliver a high-quality PE curriculum that inspires every student to enjoy, engage, and excel. Through a broad and inclusive range of activities, we encourage students to achieve their personal best in both competitive sports and lifelong physical activity. We strive to develop not only physical skills, but also confidence, teamwork, resilience, and a love for being active, laying the foundation for a healthy and active lifestyle beyond school.
Curriculum Implementation
Our PE curriculum is delivered through well-structured, progressive lessons that combine practical and theory with opportunities for reflection and personal development. Each sport is carefully sequenced to build on student’s prior skills and knowledge, ensuring steady progression from basic to more advanced techniques.
Curriculum Impact
We measure the impact of our curriculum through internal assessments, external qualifications, and student feedback. Our aim is for all students to achieve their full potential.

Enrichment Opportunities
We offer a wide range of enrichment activities to enhance students’ experience and passion for physical education. Various after-school and lunchtime clubs are available, including football, basketball, netball, badminton, and trampolining, providing opportunities for students to develop their skills beyond the curriculum.
Our students regularly participate in competitive matches against other schools, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a healthy competitive spirit. Additionally, we take part in athletics competitions, giving students the chance to represent the school and challenge themselves in a supportive environment.
Beyond sports, students also benefit from trips and guest speakers who inspire and deepen their understanding of health, fitness, and the wider world of sport, encouraging lifelong engagement in physical activity.
Supporting Students
We are committed to ensuring that all students can access and thrive within the PE curriculum. To support this, we use differentiated teaching strategies tailored to meet the needs of SEND, EAL and more able learners.
Targeted support is provided where needed to help students overcome barriers and build confidence, while extension opportunities challenge and engage higher-achieving students to reach their full potential. Through this inclusive approach, we aim to create a positive and supportive environment where every student can succeed and enjoy physical activity.
How Parents/Carers Can Support Their Child
