KS4 Curriculum

At Langdon Academy, our key stage 4 curriculum provision is broad and balanced with academic rigour, fully preparing and enabling our students to progress to the next stage of academic studies or work-related pathways. Our curriculum is underpinned by the academic core of subjects (English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Languages), learning is enhanced by the study of the Arts, Drama, Computing, Design and Technology and Physical Education, offering our students depth and a solid foundation.

Key stage 4 curriculum is pivotal, as a result, the subjects we offer our students equip them with life-long skills of literacy, numeracy and independence with a strong focus on acquisition and mastery. In addition, our curriculum actively promotes the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our students. Our students gain a clear understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

Many of the highly competitive universities and employers look at achievement at GCSE in determining which applicants to take on.

Understanding the Curriculum

At KS4, the following subjects are compulsory:

  • Mathematics
  • English Language and English Literature
  • Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Combined Sciences)
  • Computing/ICT
  • Religious Studies
  • Physical Education

We have different pathways for our students depending on their interests, academic ability and future career plans. Our most able learners must follow the English Baccalaureate pathway. This means that in addition to the above subjects, they also study a language (French, German or Spanish), History and/or Geography and Separate Sciences (Biology, Physics and Chemistry). Other students are able to follow this pathway if they wish to, but we will provide personalised support and guidance to each student to enable them to make the right choice.

We offer a wide range of other subjects that students can choose from. Please click on the links below for a full description of the core and option subjects we provide for our KS4 Students.
